ver the years, OTANS has built a dynasty, a widely-known and recognized tradition: The Great Offshore Picnic.
his year, there are developments that will mean the Picnic will not be happening, although we are hopeful of its revival in 2011.
eorge’s Island has been the site of the Picnic for over a decade and that location is a big part of what makes the event so unique. Parks Canada, which administers the island on behalf of the Government of Canada, has informed us that because of work planned for the island, it cannot be made available this year. This National Historic Site will be undergoing major improvements in water and sewage, upgrades to the electrical systems, improving access for the physically challenged as well as needed work to preserve the fortifications.
e are hopeful we can return to Georges Island in 2011, when the major improvements to the island are completed.
Swing into Spring
n May, OTANS members are invited to tee-up for a day of making contact with the ball and making contact with new clients. The OTANS Swing into Spring Golf Tournament will take place May 28th at Granite Springs Golf Course. This event is designed to be a fun and affordable way of meeting fellow OTANS members and potential clients in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. You will be seeing additional details on the event in the coming weeks.
CORE - A Whole New Experience
n October, we have exciting new developments with our annual Core conference. For the first time, we’re holding the conference and trade show in the Cunard Centre. It’s a great space that will afford a whole host of new opportunities: the ability to showcase members’ products on the waterfront; a whole new trade show layout to leverage more exposure; ample space to effectively display banners and even a parking lot to be sponsored!
e’ll be returning to Glen Arbour Golf Course for our annual Core tournament but we’re even shaking that up. Or will that be stirred? For the first time, OTANS is planning a Caesar Breakfast before the tournament and, as always, we’ve already ordered the good weather for October 4th. This tournament has grown into a fun, inter-active event with lots of games, giveaways and food on the course. And, of course, the big guy with a brute of a swing! We’re looking forward to lots of return sponsors and a few new ones, too.
f that’s not enough, get ready to attend PROJECT: LOBSTER by OTANS. This will be kick-up-your-heels, put-away-the-neckties event taking place on Tuesday, October 5th. Combine Lobster, entertainment and a relaxed atmosphere and you have the type of event people just want to attend.
